How Cancun Is Shattering Last Year’s Record of 32.3 Million Travelers

Cancun is gearing up for a bustling summer, with hotel occupancy rates predicted to reach 84%, a 3.5 percentage point increase from last year’s 80.7%, according to Juan Pablo de Zulueta, Secretary of Tourism for Benito Juárez.

The first two weeks of August are expected to see occupancy rates hit 85%, driven by strong markets from the US, Mexico, Canada, the UK, Spain, Colombia, and Brazil.

Hotels are already seeing full bookings for the December holiday season, anticipating a 95% overall occupancy by the end of the year. Cancun aims to break last year’s record of 32.3 million travelers at its international airport.

To support tourists, the local tourism office operates 24/7, addressing common issues like wet passports, lost documents, and incomplete hotel reservations.

According to federal Tourism Secretary Miguel Torruco Marqués, Playacar, Akumal, and Nuevo Nayarit currently lead in hotel occupancy rates, with Cancun close behind.
