Travel Hack: How Tulum Airport’s Lower Fees Beat Cancun!

In response to pressure from transport operators, the Tulum International Airport is preparing to implement lower access fees compared to those at the Cancun International Airport.

Sergio González Rubiera, president of the Mexican Association of Receptive Tourism Agencies, announced that there is a concrete proposal awaiting approval from the airport’s board of directors, set to meet between June 16 and 20.

Currently, Tulum Airport charges transport operators a daily fee of 800 pesos plus VAT per unit and trip, and a monthly fee of 4,300 pesos. These costs have been deemed excessively high and uncompetitive, prompting discussions for a reduction to bolster tourism and transport activities in the region.

González Rubiera highlighted that the new fee structure will make Tulum a more attractive destination for travelers, offering an economical alternative to Cancun.

The airport, known for its architectural design that integrates natural light and high ceilings, aims to provide a seamless and aesthetically pleasing experience that reflects the surrounding Mayan jungle.
